چکیده
The first member ofthe group ofpleuropneumonia organisms was isolated by Nocard and Roux in 1898 from cases ofcontagious pleuropneumonia of cattle, a disease in which the essential pathological lesions are gross pulmonary cedema, pleural exudate, and arthritis. A similar organism was found by Bridre and Donatien (1923, 1925) in sheep and goats suffering from agalactia, a syndrome which includes mastitis, arthritis, keratitis, and vesiculo-pustular skin lesions. Since 1935, when Klienberger isolated another strain from cultures of rats infected with Streptobacillus moniliformis, a number of organisms of the same group, usually referred to as pleuropneumonia-like or "L" organisms, have been described as causing arthritis, abscesses, pneumonia;

A Note on the Results of Cultural and Serological Tests for Pleuropneumonia-like Organisms
The isolation of pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLO) from the urethral secretions of patients with non-gonococcal urethritis has been reported by many workers and has led to the suggestion that they may be a possible cause of this condition, although they have also been found in the genital tract of apparently healthy males. Other organisms of the pleuropneumonia group are known to be associa...

Klieneberger-Nobel (1961) reviewed in detail the significance of large-colony pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLO) in the human genital tract. Unfortunately, at that time, the existence of T-strain PPLO, as described by Shepard (1956), was under dispute. Subsequently, however, Shephard's observation that T-strain PPLO could be isolated from the majority of patients with non-gonococcal urethrit...
متن کاملT-strain pleuropneumonia-like organisms as one cause of non-gonococcal urethritis.
A recent study and review of the literature (Ford, 1960) provided no support for the view that the usual strains of genital pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLU) were a cause of non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU). It was noted, however, that Shepard (1956, 1957, 1960) had isolated morphologically distinct T-strain PPLO from the genital tract of patients with NGU, and that he believed these T-strai...

Non-Gonococcal Urethritis.-All inflammatory processes of the male urethra presumed due to sexual intercourse, which were not caused by N. gonorrhoea, H. ducreyi, T. pallidum, the tubercle bacillus, protozoan, metazoan organisms, fungi, mechanical irritants, or tumours, were classified as non-gonococcal urethritis. Acute Urethritis, Non-Gonococcal.-Non-gonococcal urethral infections in which the...
متن کاملPPLO of human genital origin; serological classification of strains and antibody distribution in man.
Pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLO) have frequently been isolated from the human genital tract since the first report by Dienes and Edsall (1937); their presence in the urethral discharge of patients with non-gonococcal urethritis (N.G.U.) aroused interest because of the unknown aetiology of the disease. The significance ofPPLO in the genital tract and their association with N.G.U. are disput...
